The SARS-CoV-2 virus, which leads to COVID-19, has been demonstrated to remain viable in aerosol form and is transmitted by droplets. When air leaks into a chest drain bottle, it causes the fluid inside to bubble. Given the aerosolization that is likely to occur inside the drain bottle, which then escapes through the suction port or water seal valve, this may be a potentially important mode of viral transmission.
In order to avoid this event, we have designed the new Thoracic drainage protection filter (cod. 10567 / 10658) fully compatible with Redax’s 3-Chambers Chest Drains.
– Anti-viral and bacterial filter with high filtration efficiency (>99.999%) guarantees environment and Staff protection.
– Compatible with all Redax’s three chambers systems (Drentech™ Compact, Variant and Dune) during the drainage both by gravity and in connection to the central vacuum unit.
Complete protection from COVID-19 spreading
• With any air leak, virus in the patient’s lungs may flow into the drainage system and out into the suction bottle (when on suction) or room across the water seal valve (when by gravity). Trauma Surg Acute Care Open 2020;5
